May 9th:
Tour of the Satellite Station
in Southbury (Now
called Vizada, formally Telenor)
Scouts and their parent(s) should
plan to arrive at the station so that the tour can begin at 7 p.m.
Location:
2120 River Rd, Southbury, CT
Just before you get to the
entrance to the park at the Shepaug Dam...huge satellites on your right.
This event will include a tour of the satellite station and a presentation to
teach the boys (and adults!) some of the following cool things about satellites:
What is a satellite and how it is different than a antenna
Why the moon is a satellite
How satellites are used for communications on ships and airplanes
How satellites are used for maps and geography
How satellites get into space
The power and importance of computers
A look at the NASA web site
It should be a great event. It will take about one hour. It starts promptly at
7 PM. For security reasons we will all congregate in the parking lot starting
10 minutes before hand so that we can all go in as a group.
